2018 - A Year End Review

Posted on 30th December 2018

KLSS, Virtual Assistant reviews the year gone by and the admin, secretarial services and business support provided in Newark and Lincoln throughout the year

As the year draws to a close, it's a time when businesses such as my own reflect on the highs and lows of the year gone by.

Most businesses will report that the year got off to a flying start.  Given that Mr T and I were on (what we feel to be) a well-earned holiday, I'm not going to make that claim as it would be blatantly untrue!  However, as we are both self-employed we did work much of the Christmas and New Year period in order to get into a position where we could leave things, knowing they were under control until our return.

2019, sadly, won't be starting the same way!

Once back in the office, thoughts re-commenced about GDPR - the biggest shake-up to data protection for 20 years.  Whilst it was a big drain on time, it was useful to take a step back and look at working practices with a fresh perspective.  I was amongst a group of Virtual Assistants who worked with a law firm and an IT specialist.  As Virtual Assistants are in a slightly unsual position of being Data Controllers of our own data, and Data Processors of our clients' data, some interesting discussions ensued (and continue to do so!)

However, I do feel the data protection laws were due an overhaul and, thinking about just one aspect, I'm sure I'm not on my own in being thankful that my Inbox isn't on the end of such an onslaught!

I'm happy to report that 2018 has been a year of growth for KL Secretarial Services.  Clients who I've worked with this year include: psychologists, a therapist, trainers/business coaches, a market research company, a Health & Safety consultant, a lettings agent, a recruitment company, an author and ... another Virtual Assistant!

Services have included the proofreading and formatting of various documents, data entry and what's best described as 'general business admin.'

I've loved working with some great people running successful businesses, and it's really interesting to have a small peek at different industries.

One of the 'hot topics' of the year - if I dare mention the word - has been Brexit.  Whilst any road into the unknown is bound to be rocky at times, I feel fortunate that I've worked across such a range of business sectors and (hopefully!) this will keep me insulated, although not immune, from the uncertain times still ahead.

I can't end without giving a big shout-out to clients, family and friends who have helped support me throughout the year, particularly to Mr T who listens to me thinking out loud (or maybe he just pretends to listen?!) and to Benjamin Cook for his patience.

No one quite knows what 2019 is going to bring, but let's welcome it with open arms!

Happy New Year
